Organic Ethiopia Mormora
A delicate cup layered with notes of concord grape jam, ripe blackberry, and lavender. This coffee has taken several medals over the years in Golden Bean North America, the world's current largest competition for roasters.
Natural Ethiopias have long been sought out for their prominent "blueberry" tasting notes boarding on fermented fruity flavors. Over the years, the specialty industry has pushed for cup clarity and less taste of "processing method," but we still love a big ol' fruit bomb of a coffee every now and again. In 2019, we got just needy enough for a certified natural Ethiopia that our friends at Ally Coffee Importers graciously made dreams come true. We were introduced to Mormora and well, life just hasn't been the same as we've used this coffee as our single origin cold brew.
Mormora covers 200 hectares and the coffee plants benefit from protection from the sun thanks to various shade plants - which are damn important for the future of coffee. The team at Mormora manages the land in sections, with coffee trees undergoing 25 year cycles before being stumped to rejuvenate production. New trees are planted every year from seedlings in Mormora’s nursery.
Due to supply chain challenges in 2022, this lot is all that we have. We hope to be able to bring this beautiful coffee back around in 2024, but in the meantime grab a bag of this tasty treat!
Grown in the Guji zone of Ethiopia between 1,900-2,100 meters above sea level, the heirloom varieties are picked and processed using the natural method.
